Here’s 10 features that they must bring forward from 2K15 and build on in the new title.
10. ‘Reality Era’ Gameplay
WWE 2K15 based itself on being the most realistic wrestling game to date. We are in the Reality Era after all.
All ‘arcadic’ aspects of the game’s playing style, which made the old games such a hoot, were trashed in favour of a more methodical paced affair that better represents the real life product we see in the ring each and every week.
At times it can get very frustrating as you wait for your guy’s stamina bar to fill up again while he flounders around on the floor. Then again, if you don’t like it, simply turn it off.
It’s nice to have that choice.
This was a completely new system in WWE 2K15, something WWE’s games had never seen before, so it is one of the areas that is expected to see the most improvement in 2K16.
It all relates back to that old thing known as time. 2K Sports had less than a year to build the gameplay from scratch for current gen consoles and now they’ve had a year to build on the work they completed ahead of last Autumn’s release.
This aspect of the new game should be fantastic.
9. Match Structuring
Another aspect that was brand new in WWE 2K15 was how a bog standard match was structured.
Instead of allowing you to come out all guns blazing from the first bell, the game almost forced you into a collar and elbow tie up, another thing that is seen all too regularly in the product on television.
The Reality Era strikes again.
Of course, this didn’t happen all the time. If you ran at your opponent with the intention of striking a Brogue Kick for example, that’s what would happen. But then later on, but still early enough in the match for it to make sense, you’d be hooking up and trying to gain the upper hand using the innovative system which incorporates all four buttons on the right hand side of your pad.
This is all down to a matter of taste. Some will prefer the old SmackDown gameplay while others will prefer this.
Kudos to 2K Sports for going out of their comfort zone and providing us with something new and completely different to anything we’ve felt before.
8. Blood
Blood is included in WWE 2K15, you just have to look for it, and then turn it on.
It’s a necessary option to have.
One, to stimulate the Attitude Era child inside of you which saw blood in seemingly every other match during the late 90s and early 2000s and two, because it is still prominent in the product today. Really.
During the main event at WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar took a sickening looking head first bump into the ring post on the floor which immediately split him open. From the outset this looked a legitimate injury, however, there is evidence that suggests it was intentional blade job….
Moments before The Beast’s head clashes with steel, the referee definitely puts something in Roman Reigns’ hand. Was it a blade to pass over to the former champion?
If so, having blood turned on from the start of the game, instead of having to do it yourself, is a must.
7. Added DLCs
The nerve of WWE and 2K Sports.
On top of charging us gamers ridiculous prices for the game itself, they then expect you to part with more cash for features that should have been included in the game to start with.
You had to pay extra for Paige, for crying out loud, the leading Diva in the entire company. Why wasn’t she in the game to start with? That’s not to say that she wasn’t worth the extra dollars…
But if you were to buy al the packs that were released for 2K15, you’d be forking out an extra $76.92 (£49.64) on top of what you had already paid for the initial version of the game.
It wasn’t as if they were offering groundbreaking content either. Path of the Warrior aside, the others simply weren’t worth it.
Make them all compelling and FREE this year 2K! Pwetty pwease. (Flutters eye lashes.)
6. Menu Audio
That image will more than likely make the majority of your skin crawl, but hear me out.
We’re talking about the music that is playing while you are scrolling through the countless menus in the game before your superstar takes to the ring.
It was great to hear something other than the superstars’ entrance themes in 2K15, even though some of the choices were slightly questionable depending on your taste in music.
WWE and 2K Sports should look at EA Sports and their FIFA franchise for musical inspiration. Every year, they manage to combine around 50 songs consisting of a few well known hits and a plethora of new gems from all four corners of the world.
This will give the game a new lease of life and will certainly help with longevity; or just prolong the moment you eventually become so fed up with the game you have to stop.
How many of us had to turn off: “WE DEM BOYZZZZ” after around a month of owning the game. Very frustrating.
5. OMG! Moments
One of the more hidden of the gems in 2K15.
The OMG! Moments are a fantastic way to extend the lifespan and overall experience of playing the game, simply because you need to play it more to have the privilege of performing these jaw dropping ‘spots’.
You need two or three finishers stored up and your opponent suitably worn down to accomplish what has to be seen as the perfect finisher for a match, no matter what superstar you are playing as.
A full rundown of the OMG! Moments can be seen here. There’s no reason to suspect why WWE 2K16’s formula will be any different. This is arguably the best feature and most well oiled entity in the most recent title.
Don’ mess it up, 2K…
4. Who Got NXT
But this year, give it to everyone.
Ironically, those who kept faith with their old trusty PS3 or Xbox 360 got the better deal when it came to WWE 2K15.
‘Who Got NXT’ was part of the old gen versions of the game. While those stupid enough to folk out hundred of pounds on a new console were stuck with ‘My Career’ and a couple of Showcase Modes.
As The Hurricane used to say: “Whatsupwitdat?”
This year, everyone should be allowed to enjoy the fruits of NXT’s labour.
What is still officially classed as WWE’s developmental territory has become a brand in its own right and worthy of anything the powers that be throw at it. Including a long and compelling mode on the new game.
Having 10 NXT superstars to play with in 2K16 would be a dream scenario. Finally being able to pit them against members of the current roster months ahead of their respective television debuts in the real life version of WWE is mouthwatering.
It is widely expected that either an NXT Mode or WCW Mode will be 2K16’s main selling point. Which ever is picked, the same outstanding version of the mode needs to be offered to gamers of all consoles.
3. Logo Uploader
Quite literally the only redeeming feature of WWE 2K15’s creative suit.
Finally, years after it should have been a feature of the suite, you were afforded the luxury of uploading an image to your crated superstars, whether that be in the form of a logo on their tights or as a tattoo.
Either way, it is a really cool feature and something that must be brought forward into this year’s game.
Meanwhile, the likes of create a Diva, create a title, create an arena, create a custom entrance and create a finisher MUST be brought back.
The creative suite on 2K15 was arguably the worst thing about the game.
This is one of the measuring sticks that will be used when 2K16 is released in the Autumn.
With another year of development under its belt, we fully expect to see glittering results.
2. Sting
It is widely expected that The Stinger will still be wholly relevant in WWE by this time next year.
Rumours refuse to go away speculating that we will finally get to see Sting facing off against The Undertaker in front of 100,000 people at A T & T Stadium in Texas.
This means it’s time to have the former WCW Champion included as a member of the initial game’s main roster, not as a more expensive add on as he was with 2K15. Although, maybe having a Wolfpac/Metallica version of The Vigilante could be released as part of a DLC…
Also, a potential game mode chronicling the two legend’s respective careers could be a shout as it would help build their potential bout at Mania 32. (Not that it would need any help.)
